SEEKING YOUNG MALE INDIGENOUS AUSTRALIAN ACTOR FOR MIDSUMMA PLAYREADING OPPORTUNITY, PAID ROLE
Presidential Productions is currently seeking a MALE actor of ABORIGINAL/INDIGENOUS AUSTRALIAN heritage for a live play-reading performance at the Midsumma Festival in February. This is a paid opportunity.
This year, Melbourne's Midsumma Arts Festival asked for submissions of a 10-15 minute excerpt from a new play for their annual Queer Playwriting Award. This year, we have been fortunate enough to have what we wrote shortlisted for the prestigious award. We will now perform the 10-15 minute, as a play-reading, in front of a panel of judges in February. Only eight works will be performed for the judges. The panel will select four to be performed live in front of an audience at Gasworks Arts Park in April.
If we win, the play receives full production funding to be turned into a fully realised work during the following year's Midsumma festival. A great opportunity for any actor.
One of the roles is 'Greg', an indigenous Australian male living Melbourne and we are looking to cast this role for the play-reading in February, then if we're successful the play-reading in front of a live festival audience in April. And if we win you'll be guaranteed a paid role in the play! But for now, the task is to perform the best damn version of my work that we possibly can. The play is called THAT'S RACIST and is a fast-paced comedy dealing with casual racism in Australian society and culture. Role breakdown for Greg is below:
GREG: (18-35yo, Male) Greg is one of two main characters in the play. He is an openly-gay, Indigenous/Black man who just got a casual job at a local pool. He is highly-educated. He has dealt with institutional and casual racism all his life, and enjoys being correct about social issues and pushing peoples buttons. This job involves reading the script, in character, as a play-reading.
Auditions to be done via Zoom, with rehearsals at a Studio in Southbank in December/January. Fixed price of $100 - $100 per play-reading. Defiantly one, two if we're selected by the judges.
