Wilson Bazurto to star in immigrant drama short film.

Presidential Productions is proud to announce its upcoming short film, MONTSERRAT, a poignant exploration of the immigrant experience in Australia. The film is helmed by award-winning director James Cunningham, whose previous works have garnered international recognition for their compelling narratives and artistic vision. Notably, Cunningham's short film The Assignment earned him the 'Best Director' award at the Chicago Cinema Awards in 2022.

MONTSERRAT delves into the life of a solitary tradesman as he navigates the complexities of isolation, identity, and resilience in a foreign land. The film aims to provide an intimate portrayal of the challenges and triumphs inherent in the immigrant journey, shedding light on the universal quest for belonging.

"Immigration is such a hot button issue right now in Australia, and around the world, however it's often explored in media through shared experience," says Cunningham. "I wanted to tell the story of one immigrant, with relatable themes."

In the titular role is Ecuadorian actor and model Wilson Bazurto, making his Australian screen debut. Bazurto brings a wealth of experience and authenticity to the role, drawing from his own cross-cultural background to embody the nuanced emotions of an immigrant forging a new life. Known for his versatility and depth, Bazurto has made a mark in the modeling industry and is now poised to captivate audiences with his compelling performance in MONTSERRAT.

AS soon as Bazurto read the script, he was hooked. "I read the script and I loved it," the actor says. "I felt that my own story was written. Of course I was immediatly interested in the role and I would love to do it."

Director James Cunningham expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "With MONTSERRAT, we aim to tell a story that resonates on a deeply human level. Wilson's portrayal brings a rare authenticity that we believe will profoundly connect with audiences."

Production is scheduled to commence in July 2024 on Australia's picturesque Gold Coast. The choice of location is deliberate, with the coastal landscape serving as a metaphor for the protagonist's journey — vast, beautiful, and at times, isolating. The small production team is committed to capturing the essence of the immigrant experience through thoughtful storytelling and evocative visuals.

MONTSERRAT is anticipated to make its rounds in the international film festival circuit upon completion, aiming to spark conversations about identity, migration, and the human condition. Audiences can look forward to a film that not only tells a compelling story but also invites reflection on the diverse tapestry of human experiences.
