Short Documentary Production Begins in Australian Outback

Perth, Australia — Production is now underway on FERNANDO’S RIDE, the short documentary capturing one man’s remarkable transformation and mission to champion homeless youth awareness through endurance cycling. The project, produced by Presidential Productions and directed by Australian filmmaker James Cunningham, has entered principal photography following a fundraising launch.

The documentary blends evocative interviews with Fernando de Andrade, race footage from the Race to the Rock ultra-distance bike event, and intimate portraiture of his life before, during and after the journey. Fernando — who once survived life on the streets of São Paulo, Brazil, by crafting jewellery from found materials — now runs a business in Australia and aims to leverage his lived experience to inspire and support others who have faced adversity.

Presidential Productions filming crew are capturing locations across multiple sites; from the rugged expanse of the Australian outback where Fernando rode some of the harshest terrain on the planet, to urban community hubs where former homeless youth are finding new pathways forward. The production team has engaged with the subject matter in homelessness advocacy, youth services and mental health to contextualise Fernando’s lived experience within a broader social framework.

Post-production is scheduled to begin in mid-2018, with editorial workflows focused on crafting a narrative that balances visceral adventure with social insight. The team has also announced plans for community preview screenings and educational outreach partnerships to expand the film’s impact beyond traditional cinema circuits.
